Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Meanwhile, Italy has imposed restrictions on outdoor work , particularly in agriculture and construction, during the hottest parts of the day. Escalation in Gaza: Israeli Strikes Claim Lives Amid Trump's Regional Tour

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 93 people, with hundreds more injured, as U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his Middle East visit. The strikes targeted multiple locations, including Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, intensifying the ongoing conflict in the region.

Trump, speaking at a business forum in Abu Dhabi, acknowledged the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating, “We’re looking at Gaza… A lot of people are starving. A lot of bad things are going on”. Despite hopes that his visit might lead to a ceasefire or renewed humanitarian aid, no immediate resolution has been announced.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to escalate military operations, aiming to dismantle Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza. Israeli forces struck 150 targets in the past day, including military structures and anti-tank missile posts.

The strikes have forced thousands to flee, with scenes of devastation unfolding in Jabaliya and Beit Lahiya. Families of hostages held by Hamas have urged Netanyahu to seize the opportunity for negotiations, fearing that continued military action could jeopardize their loved ones’ return.

As the conflict intensifies, international pressure mounts for a diplomatic solution, but the path forward remains uncertain.
