Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Historic Shift: PKK Announces Disbandment and Disarmament in Landmark Peace Initiative with Turkey

In a groundbreaking move, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has declared its decision to dissolve its organizational structure and end its armed struggle, marking the conclusion of a four-decade-long conflict with Turkey. The announcement, made through the Firat News Agency, follows a party congress held in northern Iraq, where PKK leaders formalized their commitment to a peaceful resolution.

The PKK, which has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies, has waged an insurgency since 1984, resulting in over 40,000 casualties and significant regional instability. The decision to disband comes in response to a call from the group’s imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan, who urged his followers to embrace democratic politics as a means of addressing Kurdish rights.

While the announcement has been welcomed by Turkish officials as a step toward a "terror-free Turkey," details regarding the disarmament process remain unclear. Questions persist about the fate of PKK fighters, the disposal of weapons, and the broader implications for Kurdish militias in Syria and Iraq.

This historic development has the potential to reshape regional dynamics, offering hope for a lasting peace and renewed political stability. However, the success of this initiative will depend on the implementation of concrete measures and continued dialogue between all stakeholders involved.
