Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Israel Intercepts Missile from Yemen Amid Regional Tensions

Israel's military announced that it successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Tuesday evening. The missile, reportedly fired by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, was aimed at Israeli territory, triggering sirens in multiple locations across the country.

According to military sources, the projectile was intercepted outside Israeli airspace using advanced defense systems, including Israel’s Arrow system and the American THAAD system. While no casualties were reported, minor injuries occurred as civilians rushed to shelters.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they had launched a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. This marks the latest in a series of missile and drone strikes by the group, which has vowed to continue its attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Israel engaged in ongoing military operations in Gaza following Hamas’s deadly raid into southern Israel in October 2023. The Houthis, part of Iran’s broader Axis of Resistance, have repeatedly targeted Israel and shipping routes in the Red Sea.

Israeli officials have warned of potential retaliatory measures, urging Yemenis to avoid Houthi-controlled ports. As the situation unfolds, international observers remain concerned about the broader implications of escalating hostilities in the Middle East.
