Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Meanwhile, Italy has imposed restrictions on outdoor work , particularly in agriculture and construction, during the hottest parts of the day. Limited Aid Reaches Gaza Amid Ongoing Crisis

In a small but significant shift, Israel has eased its blockade on Gaza, allowing a limited number of aid trucks to enter the enclave. The trucks, carrying flour, baby food, and medical supplies, arrived on Wednesday, marking the first relaxation of restrictions in over two months.

Palestinian officials have welcomed the move but stress that the aid is far from sufficient to address the dire humanitarian crisis. Before the blockade, around 600 trucks entered Gaza daily, whereas only 100 trucks were permitted this time. The United Nations has warned that a quarter of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are at risk of famine.

Despite the arrival of aid, the situation remains critical. Bakeries supported by the UN’s World Food Programme have begun producing bread, but distribution efforts are still in their early stages. Meanwhile, Israeli military strikes continue, with reports of casualties across the enclave.

As international pressure mounts, calls for a more substantial and sustained flow of humanitarian assistance grow louder. The people of Gaza remain in urgent need of food, medical supplies, and security, as the crisis shows no signs of abating.
