Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. Power Struggle in the Philippines: Marcos vs. Duterte in Pivotal Midterms

The Philippines is witnessing a fiercely contested midterm election, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte locked in an intense political battle. While neither leader is on the ballot, their rivalry has turned the election into a proxy war, shaping the future of governance in the country.

At stake are over 18,000 positions, including key Senate seats that could determine the fate of Duterte, who faces an impeachment trial. If convicted, she could be permanently barred from public office, altering the political landscape ahead of the 2028 presidential race. Meanwhile, Marcos is fighting to maintain a Senate majority to push forward his legislative and economic agenda.

The once-powerful alliance between the Marcos and Duterte dynasties has crumbled, with Duterte accusing Marcos of orchestrating a campaign against her family. The feud escalated further when former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested in March and detained at the International Criminal Court over his controversial war on drugs.

With millions of Filipinos casting their votes, the outcome of this election could redefine the country’s political future. Will Marcos solidify his hold on power, or will Duterte’s faction manage to resist the growing pressure? The results will soon reveal the direction the Philippines is headed.
