Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Tragic Collision Claims Lives of Three Children in Toronto

A devastating crash in Toronto has left a family shattered, as three children lost their lives in a suspected drunk driving incident early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred just after midnight at the eastbound offramp at Renforth Drive and Highway 401. Authorities report that a Dodge Caravan, allegedly speeding, failed to stop at a red light, crossed a raised median, and struck a Chrysler Pacifica minivan that was stationary at the intersection.

Two children, aged 15 and 13, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a six-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The driver of the minivan, a 40-year-old man, along with a 35-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan, identified as 19-year-old Ethan Lehouillier of Georgetown, Ontario, has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including three counts of impaired operation causing death.

Acting Inspector Baheer Sarbanandan expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “One person’s decision to drink and drive is a fatal decision this person made … and this is the result: a family is torn apart”.

Authorities are urging witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the irreversible consequences it can bring.
