Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Meanwhile, Italy has imposed restrictions on outdoor work , particularly in agriculture and construction, during the hottest parts of the day. Cities like Rome, Milan, and Venice are under red alerts, with hospitals reporting a spike in heat-related illnesses. Trail Camera Footage May Hold Clues in Missing N.S. Children Case

As the investigation into the disappearance of six-year-old Lilly Sullivan and her four-year-old brother Jack Sullivan continues, a neighbour has provided the RCMP with days of trail camera footage that could offer new insights into the case.

Melissa Scott, who lives near the children's home in Lansdowne Station, Nova Scotia, handed over footage spanning five days before the children were reported missing on May 2. Scott, who has seven trail cameras positioned around her property, was approached by RCMP officers on May 20 and asked to provide footage from April 27 to May 3.

The RCMP has remained tight-lipped about the investigation, but they have confirmed that their major crime unit has been involved since the day after the disappearance. The search for the children initially covered 5.5 square kilometres of dense woods and was later expanded to specific areas around their home.

Scott expressed relief that investigators were canvassing the area more thoroughly and reviewing trail camera footage. She also noted that other neighbours had been approached by police for similar footage.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the case is suspicious, and they continue to follow leads in hopes of finding Lilly and Jack.
