Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Meanwhile, Italy has imposed restrictions on outdoor work , particularly in agriculture and construction, during the hottest parts of the day. Devastating Russian Airstrike Hits Kharkiv, Killing Three and Injuring Dozens

A massive Russian aerial attack struck Ukraine’s eastern city of Kharkiv early Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring 21 others, according to local officials. The assault, described as the most powerful attack on the city since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, involved missiles, drones, and aerial glide bombs.

Kharkiv’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, reported that the attack damaged 18 apartment buildings and 13 private homes. Ukrainian air defenses managed to neutralize 87 drones and seven missiles overnight, but the scale of destruction remains severe. The strike comes amid a series of near-daily Russian attacks, further dimming hopes for a peace resolution.

The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Russia launched 215 missiles and drones across multiple regions, including Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Ternopil. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the need for increased international pressure on Moscow to halt the ongoing devastation.

This latest escalation follows a fierce missile and drone barrage on Ukraine just a day earlier, which killed at least six people and injured around 80 across multiple territories. The situation remains dire as Ukraine braces for further strikes in the ongoing conflict.
