Parcel Delivery Disrupted as DHL Express Canada Locks Out 2,100 Workers Amid Labour Dispute

 



DHL Express Canada has locked out 2,100 workers after failing to reach a contract agreement with Unifor, the union representing truck drivers, couriers, and warehouse employees. In response, Unifor launched a strike, escalating tensions in the parcel delivery sector.

The dispute centers around proposed changes to the driver pay system and concerns over the use of replacement workers before new legislation banning them takes effect on June 20. DHL maintains that its contingency plan will minimize service disruptions, but Unifor warns that the lockout could impact major events, including the upcoming Formula One Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

The labour unrest comes at a time when Canada Post is also facing challenges with its workforce, adding further strain to the country's parcel delivery network. As negotiations stall, customers and businesses alike brace for potential delays in shipments.
