Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Tensions Escalate as Israel Strikes Syria Following Rocket Fire

Israel launched airstrikes on southern Syria after two projectiles were fired from Syrian territory into Israel. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel holds Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa directly responsible for the attack and vowed a full response.

The Israeli military confirmed that the rockets landed in open areas near the Golan Heights, triggering air raid sirens but causing no reported injuries. In retaliation, Israeli forces targeted weapons facilities belonging to the Syrian government.

Syria’s foreign ministry denied involvement in the rocket launches, asserting that the country does not pose a threat to the region. However, it condemned Israel’s counterattack, citing significant human and material losses and calling for international intervention to restore stability.

This marks the first rocket fire from Syria into Israel in over a year, following months of indirect diplomatic efforts between the two nations. Despite these talks, Israel has intensified its military operations in Syria since Sharaa led a rebel offensive that ousted former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

The situation remains volatile, with both sides exchanging accusations and warnings. As regional tensions rise, the international community watches closely for further developments.
