Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Tensions Escalate as Israeli Military Strikes Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

In a significant escalation, the Israeli military launched airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting what it described as Hezbollah’s underground drone production facilities. The attack, which occurred on the eve of Eid al-Adha, struck multiple locations in the densely populated Dahieh district, prompting widespread evacuations and panic among residents.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had issued warnings earlier in the day, urging civilians in specific neighborhoods to evacuate due to imminent strikes. The Lebanese government swiftly condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international agreements and a direct threat to national security. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the strikes as a "flagrant violation" of the ceasefire agreement that had been in place for six months.

The situation remains fluid, with no immediate reports on casualties. Hezbollah has yet to issue an official response, but tensions between Israel and the militant group have been steadily rising despite previous ceasefire efforts. The international community is closely monitoring developments, fearing further escalation in the region.
