Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Tragedy at Gaza Aid Site: 24 Palestinians Killed Amid Growing Crisis

At least 24 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured near a food distribution site in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred as crowds gathered to receive desperately needed humanitarian aid.

The Israeli military stated that its forces had opened fire on individuals who had deviated from designated access routes near the distribution center in Rafah. The military claimed that it fired evasive shots before targeting individuals who continued to advance toward its forces.

The deaths come amid ongoing violence in Gaza, where Israeli forces have been engaged in a months-long offensive against Hamas militants. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with widespread hunger and displacement affecting much of the population.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S.-backed aid group, has been distributing food in the region, but its operations have faced criticism from the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations. Reports of repeated killings near aid sites have raised concerns about the safety of civilians seeking assistance.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an independent investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for accountability and protection of civilians in conflict zones.
