Ottawa Commits Major Support to Lumber Sector

In a significant move to bolster Canada's lumber industry, Finance Minister Mark Carney has announced a $1.2-billion support package aimed at stabilizing the sector amid ongoing global economic pressures and trade uncertainties.

The funding will be directed toward modernizing mills, enhancing sustainability practices, and supporting workers affected by market volatility. A portion of the package will also go toward legal and trade advocacy, as Canada continues to navigate disputes over softwood lumber exports.

Carney emphasized the importance of the lumber industry to Canada's economy, particularly in rural communities. “This investment ensures that our forestry sector remains competitive, resilient, and ready to meet future demand,” he said during the announcement.
