Trump Signals Possible 2025 Meeting with Kim Jong Un Amid South Korea Talks

US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un shake hands during the signing of a document after their summit at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore.

In a high-profile Oval Office meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his desire to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un before the end of the year.

Trump, who met Kim three times during his first term, described their relationship as “very good” and recalled past encounters, including his historic 2019 step into North Korea. He suggested renewed talks could help ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, echoing Lee’s call for a “new era of peace”.

The meeting came after Trump stirred controversy with social media remarks about a “purge or revolution” in South Korea, which he later dismissed as a misunderstanding. Despite the rocky start, both leaders emphasized cooperation, with Lee praising Trump’s past diplomacy and even joking about the prospect of a Trump Tower in North Korea.

While no date has been set, Trump’s comments mark a potential revival of his personal diplomacy with Pyongyang — a strategy that previously generated global headlines but yielded limited progress on denuclearization.
