Turkey Calls for Islamic Unity Against Israel’s Gaza City Plan

In a strong diplomatic appeal, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urged Muslim nations to unite in opposition to Israel’s proposed takeover of Gaza City. Speaking at a joint press conference in El-Alamein, Egypt, alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Fidan emphasized the urgency of coordinated action through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which has been summoned for an emergency meeting.

Fidan described Israel’s plan as a dangerous escalation, accusing it of aiming to displace Palestinians through starvation and permanent occupation. Egypt echoed Turkey’s condemnation, with Abdelatty calling the move “inadmissible” and warning of its destabilizing impact on the region.

The OIC Ministerial Committee issued a statement denouncing the plan as a violation of international law and a threat to any future peace efforts. Meanwhile, international mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States continue to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Israel has rejected these characterizations, maintaining that its actions are in response to Hamas’s October 2023 attack, which claimed 1,200 lives.

This latest diplomatic push underscores growing concern among Muslim-majority nations over the humanitarian and geopolitical consequences of Israel’s Gaza strategy.
