Canadian MPs Urge Swift Action as Antisemitism Reaches Alarming Levels


Liberal MP Anthony Housefather, joined by 31 fellow caucus members, has issued a public call for urgent measures to combat what they describe as a “deplorable” and increasingly “normalized” rise in antisemitism across Canada. The statement follows a shocking incident in Ottawa, where a Jewish woman in her 70s was stabbed in a grocery store known for its large kosher section. Police have charged a 71-year-old man and are treating the attack as a hate-motivated crime.

The MPs’ letter cites a surge in hate crimes against Jewish Canadians, with Statistics Canada reporting 920 such incidents last year — the highest among all religious groups.
