Disney Reinstates Jimmy Kimmel Live! After Backlash and FCC Pressure

After nearly a week off the air, Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to return to ABC following Disney’s reversal of its suspension. The late-night show was pulled after host Jimmy Kimmel made controversial remarks about the alleged assassin of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, sparking outrage from critics and a warning from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Disney initially halted production, citing the need to avoid “further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.” However, mounting backlash—including boycotts of Disney+ and widespread criticism from lawmakers, celebrities, and free speech advocates—pushed the company to reconsider.

Over the weekend, Disney executives, including CEO Bob Iger, held discussions with Kimmel before announcing the show’s return. While Disney acknowledged Kimmel’s comments were “ill-timed and insensitive,” the company emphasized that the decision to bring him back was made in its own strategic interest rather than under direct political or regulatory pressure.

Kimmel is expected to address the controversy in his first monologue back, with many anticipating one of the most closely watched episodes of his career.
