Trump Declares Antifa a Domestic Terrorist Organization, Sparking Debate

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order officially designating the anti-fascist movement known as Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. The White House announced the move on Monday, framing it as part of a broader effort to combat what Trump described as “radical left violence”.

The order directs federal agencies to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle” any illegal operations linked to Antifa or individuals claiming affiliation with the movement. It also calls for scrutiny of funding sources that may support such activities.

Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” is not a centralized group but rather a loose network of activists and organizations. Critics, including civil liberties advocates, argue that labeling it a terrorist organization is legally questionable and could infringe on free speech protections. The U.S. government has historically reserved terrorism designations for foreign entities, making this step unprecedented.

Supporters of the decision say it is necessary to curb political violence, while opponents warn it risks being used as a tool to suppress dissent. The announcement has already ignited heated debate across social media and political circles, underscoring the deep divisions over how to define and address domestic extremism.
