Canada Crowned the World’s Top Destination for a Fresh Start

A new global study has officially placed Canada at the top of the list of countries people most want to move to — leaving the United States trailing behind in fifth place.

The survey, conducted by money transfer platform Remitly, asked more than 4,800 people across 26 countries where they dream of relocating. Canada emerged as the clear winner, thanks to its strong quality of life, safe cities, excellent education and healthcare, and abundant outdoor opportunities.

Respondents also highlighted Canada’s slower-paced lifestyle, welcoming communities, and diverse landscapes — from bustling cosmopolitan hubs to serene mountain ranges — as major draws. Career opportunities and family-friendly policies further boosted its appeal.

Meanwhile, the U.S., long considered the “land of opportunity,” slipped to fifth place. While job prospects and financial benefits remain attractive, concerns over safety, lifestyle balance, and political climate weighed heavily against it.

The findings suggest that when people dream of moving abroad, it’s not just about money — it’s about stability, safety, and a better way of life. And right now, Canada is the country that checks all those boxes.
