G7 Foreign Ministers Meet in Niagara to Hear Ukraine’s Plea Amid Escalating War

Top diplomats from the Group of Seven (G7) nations gathered in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario , for high-stakes talks with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister as Russia intensifies its assault on Ukraine’s power grid. The meeting, hosted by Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand , comes at a critical moment as rolling blackouts sweep across Ukraine ahead of winter. Foreign ministers from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the European Union posed for a family photo before beginning discussions. Israel’s Army Prepares to Implement First Phase of Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Israel’s military announced it has begun preparations to implement the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, following Hamas’s partial acceptance of the proposal.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was instructed by national leaders to “advance readiness” for the plan, which aims to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of remaining hostages. According to officials, the army has shifted to a defensive-only posture in Gaza, though no troops have yet been withdrawn.

The move came hours after President Trump publicly urged Israel to halt its bombing campaign, citing Hamas’s willingness to accept parts of his 20-point peace framework. Trump welcomed the development, declaring, “I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel is committed to the plan, though it emphasized that implementation must align with Israel’s security principles. Meanwhile, Arab mediators, including Egypt, are working on parallel negotiations for a broader ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, and a unified Palestinian political framework.

The plan, unveiled earlier this week, has drawn broad international support. It calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal, the release of hostages within 72 hours, and a significant increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, key sticking points remain, particularly Hamas’s disarmament and the long-term governance of Gaza.

The announcement marks a rare moment of cautious optimism after nearly two years of devastating conflict, though analysts warn that the peace process remains fragile and dependent on both sides’ willingness to compromise.
