Prince Andrew Renounces Duke of York Title Amid Epstein Scandal

As well as no longer being known as the Duke of York, the UK's Prince Andrew will also give up other titles.

Britain’s Prince Andrew has formally relinquished his title of Duke of York and all associated royal honours after discussions with King Charles III. The move comes amid ongoing scrutiny of his ties to the late American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, Andrew acknowledged that “the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.” He emphasized that the decision was made in consultation with the King and other family members, adding that he would no longer use his titles or honours.

Although he will retain the title of “Prince” by birthright, Andrew has now stepped further away from public life, having already withdrawn from royal duties in 2019. He continues to deny all allegations connected to Epstein but said he wished to prioritize his duty to family and country over personal standing.

The announcement marks one of the most significant steps yet in the royal family’s efforts to distance itself from the scandal, underscoring the lasting impact of Andrew’s association with Epstein.
