Markets Rebound as Trump Softens Stance on Power Plant Shutdown Threat

Stock futures surged early Monday after President Donald Trump backed away from a threat to shut down certain U.S. power plants, easing investor concerns about potential disruptions to the energy grid and broader economic fallout. Major index futures—including the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq—turned sharply higher as traders interpreted the shift as a sign of policy stability after a volatile week. Israeli authorities have acknowledged that the first Israeli civilian death in the ongoing Lebanon border conflict was the result of friendly fire. The victim, Ofer Moskovitz, a 60‑year‑old avocado farmer from Misgav Am, was killed when Israeli artillery mistakenly struck the area during operations supporting troops engaged with Hezbollah forces across the border.

Initial military findings revealed operational errors in both planning and execution, leading to the fatal misfire. The Israeli Defense Forces stated that the artillery was intended to assist soldiers operating in southern Lebanon but instead hit Moskovitz’s location.

The incident has prompted an internal investigation as tensions continue to escalate along the northern frontier, running parallel to broader regional conflict involving Iran-backed groups.
